Film is a powerful method of science communication and environmental storytelling. Video can increase accessibility of scientific findings, engage broader audiences, create emotional connection, bridge researchers and the public, and introduce new methods of environmental education. It can also highlight and explore the context in which research or an environmental issue sits, offering a tool for acknowledging systems, histories, cultural differences, personal stories, environmental justice, and many other nuances.

This session will center on discussions about the role of film in science and environmental communication, challenges and benefits, collaborations between filmmakers and scientists, and potentials for environmental education. It will also offer a space to engage with completed films and each other. 

We encourage any projects that explore environmental topics through film or video, including but not limited to scientific ones. Projects that explore environmental justice, traditional ecological knowledge, use in environmental education, and other intersectional environmental stories are welcome.
