Abstract:
Crust and uppermost mantle structure across West Antarctica is investigated by modeling regional seismograms recorded on POLENET stations from the June 1st, 2012 Mw 5.6 earthquake located offshore Marie Byrd Land. The seismograms are modeled using a simple grid search approach with a 3-layer crust over a mantle half-space. The ice-layer is also included with a fixed thickness. Synthetic seismograms are computed using the reflectivity method. Preliminary results indicate crustal thickness of 20 – 30 km, a sedimentary basin with low velocities, and a Pn velocity of 7.9 – 8.0 km/s.
