Damped Large Amplitude Oscillations in a Solar Prominence and Coronal Loops Triggered By Coronal Waves Associated with a Single Flare
Abstract:
Waves and oscillations in the corona are phenomena that have be known for a long time. Observations of the wave and oscillatory activity can be used to examine the local physical parameters and equilibrium properties. Here we investigate the large amplitude oscillations in a prominence and a bundle of chromospheric loops, observed with SDO/AIA on the east solar limb on 22 September 2012. The oscillations are triggered by large scale coronal waves, associated with a large flare in remote active regions behind the solar limb. Time series of the oscillations, from which the oscillatory properties are extracted, are tracked with slits perpendicular to the solar surface. Then local physical parameters are obtained, based on the oscillatory and damping mechanisms, and the leakage of the oscillatory energy can also be estimated. Combined with observations of STEREO/EUVI, different locations of the prominence, the loops, and other non-oscillatory structures for contrast, are determined with SCC_MEASURE procedure. The comparison of influences of the coronal waves on these oscillatory and non-oscillatory structures reveals the variation of the properties of the coronal waves during their propagation.
