Session Description:
High Mountains are recognized for their significant role in the climate system and implication for global hydrological cycles. They influence physical and dynamical processes from the boundary layer to the stratosphere, and are of primary importance for the future of water resources in large areas of our planet. Observing and modeling weather and climate in High Mountain’s complex terrain is recognizably challenging and requires multiple approaches and techniques. With the rapid warming of the planet, the fate of water resources and the ability to mitigating hazards for large populations in developing countries may depend on the development and improvement of observational methods and modeling approaches. This session invites researchers interested in presenting the progress of studies investigating weather and climate variation and change on a broad range of temporal scales in High Mountain areas using observational data, atmospheric modeling, and remote sensing techniques.
