Development of Essential Biodiversity Variables: Progress and Challenges Posters

Session Description:
Essential Biodiversity Variables (EBVs) are being developed by the Group on Earth Observation’s (GEO) Biodiversity Observation Network (BON). EBVs are those variables required to study, report, and manage biodiversity change, focusing on status and trends in elements of biodiversity. Candidate EBVs, which cover terrestrial and aquatic realms, include phenology, ecosystem extent and fragmentation, and species occurrence (see

Because Earth observing satellites make frequent, repeated observations across the globe, they are often a key input to numerous EBVs. Although this session will focus on EBVs with a significant remote sensing component, we welcome any EBV development abstract, as EBVs should be measurement agnostic. The goal for this session is to bring together those who are thinking about EBV development to share ideas, progress, challenges, and lessons learned, with the ultimate aim of moving forward a collective set of EBVs and identifying observing requirements.
