The Green New Deal: From Resolution to Reality
The Green New Deal: From Resolution to Reality
Session ID#: 74231
Session Description:
The Green New Deal – a resolution introduced in the U.S. Congress – represents a transformative set of goals around addressing climate change through a 10-year national mobilization to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. The wide-ranging scope of the resolution has the potential to significantly change the course of global climate dialogue.
Yet, translating the Green New Deal goals to reality requires specific policy proposals that address carbon emissions. In this context, climate scientists, engineers, and social scientists have an important role to play in civil society by using their research to inform evidence-based policies.
In this session, we will invite panelists who, through their work in academia or government, will speak to the solutions and challenges in decarbonizing the U.S. economy. Panelists will address issues around specific goals of the Green New Deal including energy justice, equity, political economy of climate legislation, decarbonization, and implications for global climate action.
