Urban geophysics
Session ID#: 74411
Session Description:
The global urbanization process and its impact on environmental sustainability and resilience to natural risks strongly requires the integration of novel geophysical technologies for mapping surface and subsurface in urban areas. The goal of the session is to promote open discussions on the more recent and innovative in-situ and remote sensing geophysical technologies for investigation in urban areas with focus on the: (i) geophysical technologies (seismic, GPR, electrical and electromagnetic 3D tomography) for subsurface investigations; ii) satellite (InSAR, TIR and VIS imagery) and UAV technologies for monitoring urban infrastructures and mapping surface properties and iii) innovative sensors (Fiber Optic, MEMS) for the geophysical networks. The session aims to evaluate the contribution of the geophysical technologies to characterize the geological-structural setting of the subsurface in complex urban environments, to study the dynamical interaction soil-buildings and to control the strategic civil infrastructures (energy grids, networks for urban mobility, etc.).
