Interdisciplinary Sustainable Solutions for Urban Areas

Session ID#: 75740

Session Description:
Unprecedented population growth, migration, technological changes are leading to the emergence of new cities and the expansion of existing urban centers. Climate change and urban growth creates cascading demands for clean energy and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, improved transportation systems, replacement of aging infrastructure, improved stormwater management to prevent flooding, and better land use planning. Stressors like climate change can increase the likelihood issues with flooding, blight, heat stress, social inequality, and higher rates of crime. Advanced understanding of climate-driven sustainable innovative actions can help find cost-effective solutions for cities with varying sizes. This session focuses on actionable interdisciplinary aspects of urban sustainability for social, ecological and technological systems and invites studies focused on filling gaps for related elements of urban sustainability including innovative ways to diagnose and find solutions for water management, energy supply, high-impact weather, air pollution, and climate change adaptation through integrating analysis, measurement, and modeling.
