Sustainable Energy Transitions in the Developing World

Session ID#: 76829

Session Description:
Many developing countries face the twin challenges of lifting millions of people out of poverty while also ensuring sustainable energy development. With a large fossil fuel-based infrastructure, the future of global carbon emissions rests, to a large extent, on a successful clean energy transition in the developing world.

We invite papers that examine the technical, economic, and political pathways to a clean energy transition in the developing nations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Specifically, we are interested in perspectives that address the recent growth in renewables, infrastructure needs to meet future energy demand, pollution mitigation efforts, eradicating energy poverty, and strategies for just energy transitions.

We also encourage contributions that study the role of the multinational organizations such as the WTO and UNFCCC and south-south cooperation like China’s Belt and Road Initiative or the New Development Bank in accelerating sustainable energy transitions in the developing world.
