Energy Meteorology 1 – Solar Irradiance Resourcing and Forecasting
Session ID#: 77129
Session Description:
Solar Forecasting is an enabling technology for integration of weather-dependent energy technologies into the power grid. Combined with resourcing, solar forecasting can be used for siting, planning, control, operations, scheduling and integration of large-scale power plants that will provide a substantial fraction of the power needs for the world population in the next 50 years. The talks in this session will give an overview of the state-of-the art efforts in predicting optical properties and transport of clouds and aerosols for solar forecasting horizons spanning minutes to several days ahead.
This is one of a three-session contribution sponsored by the American Institute of Physics Publishing (AIPP), and will be chaired by the new Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy (JRSE) who aims to make JRSE the home journal for researchers with interests in energy meteorology and climatology and wind and solar resourcing and forecasting.
