The Known and Unknown: Overcoming Obstacles and Celebrating Successes During the Grad School Journey
Session ID#: 77406
Session Description:
During a graduate school journey, a graduate student must stay focused on research, be engaged to related social activities, and manage many unforeseen problems in one’s life. For example, one may face existential crisis when having conflict with advisor, experiments do not go through as expected, or modeling results do not make any sense. To have a successful grad life and beyond to early career, one needs to find ways to stay heathy both physically and mentally. In this session, we aim to normalize the conversation of the trials of graduate school by overcoming adversity. Further, we want to share our successes and anecdotes from the lab and the office. The talk is story-based. The goal of this session is to provide tips about managing problems, making up for the mistakes, and eventually to lead to a less troublesome and more pleasant PhD life.
