Drought: Dynamics, Impacts, Resilience, and Adaptation
Drought: Dynamics, Impacts, Resilience, and Adaptation
Session ID#: 77877
Session Description:
Drought is a global problem calling for innovative, multidisciplinary solutions. Climate change and the growing demand for freshwater make drought a disastrous threat to water supplies, food production, and the environment. Yet, it remains challenging to predict droughts; quantify impacts; provide in-time response aid; and prepare societies to adapt to current and future events. Overcoming these challenges requires a better understanding of the reliability of methods to forecast, monitor, and assess drought (risk); and of the implementation barriers to put these methods into practice.
We welcome submissions from across disciplines and at a range of spatial scales that investigate aspects of droughts not limited to the role of land-ocean-atmosphere processes in driving drought dynamics; drought forecasting; drought impacts on ecosystems, human populations, or agriculture; links between drought and groundwater depletion; human population resilience and vulnerability to drought; drought mitigation strategies; and water resources governance and management.
