Changes, Risks and Services of Cryosphere under a Warming Climate

Session ID#: 78158

Session Description:
Climate warming has dramatic impacts on cryopshere as well as its components and elements. Consequently, cryospheric changes would have substantially influence on cold regions ecosystem and environments, social-economic developments, and human society as a whole.  Cryosphere provides water resources that support irrigation and hydropower generation, diverse cryospheric tourism products, unique cryospheric cultural forms and endemic species habitat. It is clear that cryosphere is of unique function for economic and social services. At the same time, cryosphere and its change also provide risks and hazards for socioeconomic societies. In this session, we solicit abstract submissions including but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Cryospheric processes and cryospheric change;
  • Services that are provisioned, regulated, or supported by the cryosphere;
  • Cryospheric changes and its impacts on services, socioeconomic risks and disasters, as well as natural hazards;
  • Methods and assessments of the social and/or economic values of cryospheric services.
Index Terms:

1621 Cryospheric change [GLOBAL CHANGE]
1630 Impacts of global change [GLOBAL CHANGE]
4329 Sustainable development [NATURAL HAZARDS]
4333 Disaster risk analysis and assessment [NATURAL HAZARDS]
