Digital Transformation of Earth Science Cloud: providing users with easy access to large data collections with scalable computing

Session ID#: 78621

Session Description:
The pace of Earth science model and observation data creation at US agencies and other countries continues to increase at an astounding rate driven by increased computer capability coupled with advanced sensors.  At the same time, computational and information technology concepts have evolved to create virtualization technologies and turned cloud computing from a buzzword into an emerging trend. Increasingly, scientists are performing analyses, sharing data and collaborating on research papers in the cloud. In this new paradigm, scientists must rethink how they will leverage this new environment to analyze their model and observational data in the future when our “workstations” are in the cloud. This session invites contributions to the themes:

Innovative methods of data analysis for Earth System data utilizing cloud technologies

Data movements between cloud environments

Server-side analytics

Value added distributed data access and visualization methods

Creative methods of model and observational data intercomparison in the cloud
