Science Communication at Multiple Scales

Session ID#: 78926

Session Description:
Meaningful science communication can take many forms that vary not only in how outreach is conducted, (i.e. blogs, podcasts, talks or videos), but also the size of the audience and the duration of engagement. For example, communication efforts range in size from outreach targeting individual classrooms, to contact with large audiences via public lectures or wide-reaching media.  Similarly, the duration of communication efforts can range from one-time events to repeating engagement.  Science communication is critical at all scales across both of these spectra.  At the same time, a common question is how to maximize impact while staying within constraints of time, budget or knowledge base.  What are the ways to scale-up?  In this session we are seeking contributions that highlight the full spectrum of science communication efforts, identify lessons learned from scientists capitalizing on existing communication resources, and draw attention to the ways that communication efforts can be scaled.
