Uniting Advances in Remote Sensing, Earth System Modeling, and Social Sciences to Improve Risk Management
Uniting Advances in Remote Sensing, Earth System Modeling, and Social Sciences to Improve Risk Management
Session ID#: 79056
Session Description:
Advances in the science of detecting and predicting hazards such as droughts and floods offer the renewed promise of helping communities plan for, survive, and thrive amid adverse conditions. However, using these advances to effectively protect vulnerable people also requires innovations in the design and delivery of social protection programs.
This session seeks to unite technical and programmatic expertise to detect and manage environmental risks. Innovations and evaluations related to identifying and filling gaps in insurance and/or early warning initiatives for agricultural systems are of particular interest, given their significant potential to influence the livelihoods and food security situation of vulnerable people across the world.
We welcome participants from the remote sensing / earth science, risk financing, and public policy domains to share experiences from risk fields on agriculture and beyond (e.g., fires, earthquakes, severe weather), so as to cross-pollinate lessons on enhancing welfare and resilience to environmental shocks.
