Risk management of natural hazards for resilient and sustainable city development
Risk management of natural hazards for resilient and sustainable city development
Session ID#: 79179
Session Description:
Rising numbers of people in urban areas are becoming increasingly vulnerable to threats from natural hazards under the rapid urbanization and climate change. Many countries around the world have explored new ways to make cities more resilient to natural hazards such as Water-Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) in Australia, Sponge Cities in China, Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) in the UK and Low Impact Development (LID) in North America. As a result, there is an urgent need to understand hazards, exposure, vulnerability and risk so as to design more resilient and sustainable urban development. Therefore, this session will solicit abstracts in various aspects of risk management of natural hazards in cities including single hazards (earthquake, drought, typhoon, storm surge, landslide, flood, etc.) and interacting multi-hazards (confounding, cascading, and triggering), and their socioeconomic impacts.
