The Global Geodetic Observing System: Incubation of new initiatives

Session ID#: 79224

Session Description:
The IAG's Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) provides the means for integrating ground- and space-based geodetic observations. Modernizing the existing geodetic infrastructure homogenizing the processing of data are essential for consistent observations of Earth's time-variable shape, rotation, and gravity. This session addresses ongoing and planned improvements to the geodetic observing systems and the application of their observations to improve our understanding of the dynamic Earth. GGOS also has a role to foster new initiatives in geodesy in terms of Focus Areas, which currently cover unified height system, geohazards monitoring, sea level changes, and space weather. We particularly welcome contributions on topics including new relevant technologies and new fields of application for science and social demands. We also welcome general contributions on GGOS including the progress and plans for building next generation geodetic stations.
