Forecast, Risk Analysis, Monitoring, and Mitigation of Hydrologic Extremes in a Dynamic World under climatic and environmental changes
Session ID#: 79427
Session Description:
Recent natural hazards such as floods, droughts, mud flows, landslides, severe storms, and wildfires have occurred more frequently and in greater severity. Climate model forecast, earth observation via space platforms and ground data collection facilitates more effective responses to natural disasters that could incur severe damages to society, land, coastal areas, and infrastructure. This session will consider research on forecast, risk analysis, monitoring, assessment, data, and tools to mitigate losses from natural hazards, such as: (1) analysis of climate extremes, land degradation and recovery; (2) Non-stationary hydroclimatic data analysis; (3) interrelationships between extremes and climate; (4) Societal Vulnerability; (5) Hydrologic dynamics in glacier dominated watersheds; (6) Risk analysis of extremes; (7) Hazard events under the influence of climate patterns; (8) Strategic responses to weather/climatic extremes through collaborations, adaptive strategies, insurance, and technologies; (9) environmental sustainability and capacity building; and (10) research in advancing community knowledge on risk
