Understanding Pore-Scale Mechanisms of Fluid Flow in Porous Media: Modeling and Experimental Approaches
Session ID#: 79521
Session Description:
Pore-scale mechanisms of fluid flow are fundamental to designing macro-scale applications, such as carbon sequestration, oil recovery, groundwater contamination, and fuel cells. Recent advances in the fundamental understanding of pore-scale transport mechanisms are enabled by the development of numerical simulation and experimental approaches. Upscaled understanding of pore-scale dynamics, however, requires integrated experimental and theoretical methods.
This session highlights contributions addressing numerical modeling and experiments in pore-scale characterization of fluid flow in porous media. Topics may include, but are not limited to: pore-scale visualization of dynamic processes, multiphase flow in pore-scale, solid-fluid interaction (wettability, reactive flow), residual and dissolution trapping mechanisms, pore-scale modeling (e.g. lattice Boltzmann model), and upscaling of model and experimental results from pore to macro scale. New applications based on data analytics and machine learning approaches in this area are also encouraged to submit their abstracts.
