Quaternary Hydroclimate of the Americas: Paleorecords and Model Simulations
Quaternary Hydroclimate of the Americas: Paleorecords and Model Simulations
Session ID#: 79937
Session Description:
Climate across the Americas is controlled by interactions among a multitude of systems, including the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), North American Monsoon (NAM), El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO), and westerlies, all of which are influenced by sea surface temperature in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. An understanding of past interactions among these systems under a variety of global temperature regimes provides valuable insights into potential future scenarios with warmer climate conditions. For this session, we seek contributions from proxy-based and climate modeling investigations of Quaternary hydroclimate variability in the Americas (low, middle, and high latitudes), including its spatial expressions, magnitude, and mechanisms, to promote discussion and synthesis of recent findings. Contributions that explore the spatial patterns and magnitude of hydrological changes over a range of latitudes during the late Quaternary are especially encouraged.
