GeoHealth Research in the Global South: Themes and Priority Research Questions

Session ID#: 80329

Session Description:
The recent IPCC special report has underscored the dire impacts of climate on human health and wellbeing. Moreover, populations in the global south such as Africa bear the brunt of climate change and related impacts on health but have limited resources in addressing this challenge. The overlap of GIS and Health Science provides a unique avenue to address the ensuing challenges from the intersection of people, location, time and health. In many areas of the Global South however, GeoHealth has not yet gained policy focus or been foregrounded in development initiatives despite its importance. This workshop looks at core levers or thematic areas for the peculiar socio-economic background of countries in the global south who also bear the brunt of climate change with implication on urban health. This session situates GeoHealth in the context of the sustainable development goals and the Leaving No One Agenda.
