Aerosol-radiation-cloud-precipitation interactions: Linking regional air pollution and climate change

Session ID#: 80641

Session Description:
Aerosols, especially those from human activities, affect Earth’s climate by interacting with radiation, cloud, and precipitation. The changes in climate also influence aerosol budget. An adequate understanding of these complex interactions are crucial for air pollution control and climate change mitigation.

We welcome all observational, experimental, and modeling studies that present new knowledge of aerosol-radiation-cloud-precipitation interactions and their implications for air quality and climate change. Relevant topics include but are not limited to: (1) new understanding of aerosol physical and chemical processes that affect air pollution and climate, including new particle formation and growth, cloud condensation and ice nucleation activities, and multiphase reactions; (2) interactions among aerosols, radiation, clouds (including liquid, mixed-phase, and ice clouds) and precipitation; (3) roles of aerosol-radiation-cloud-precipitation interactions in boundary layer dynamics and haze pollution; (4) impact of these interactions on weather and climate; and (5) influence of past and future climate change on air quality.
