Characterization of Geologic Structures and Solute and Fluid Properties Affecting Transport and Fate of Chemicals in Rocks
Session ID#: 80751
Session Description:
Fields such as hydraulic fracturing, carbon sequestration, and contaminant transport are all requiring advancement in methods to collect information of the structure and evolution of porous rocks and the transport of solutes and fluids through them. This session will host presentations from the diverse areas that are involved in this subject. Specifically, presentations on 1) advancement in methods to non-destructively image porous rock using methods such as Xray and NMR; 2) methods to interpret imaging data to map porosity, permeability, and mineral coatings and geologic structures that affect solute transport; 3) studies of the transport of fluids and solutes through porous rocks under different temperature, pressure, and compositional conditions, and 4) computational models for transport of fluids and solutes through this media as well as rock-mineral interactions.
