Cloud properties, processes, and associated parameterization

Session ID#: 80827

Session Description:
Clouds play a significant role in the weather and climate systems, and their representation in models remains one of the largest uncertainties for weather and climate predictions. Long-term cloud observations with accurate uncertainty estimates are highly demanded, along with better understanding of cloud processes. Studies have shown large systematic differences of cloud properties from various observations. It is crucial to understand the cloud properties and their uncertainties. With the recent improvements in the availability and quality of observations and model simulations, understanding of cloud processes and improvement of cloud-associated parameterization can be progressed.

This session invites papers focusing on cloud properties, cloud processes, and cloud-associated models and parameterizations. Related topics include but are not limited to 1) cloud observations and retrievals; 2) analyses of cloud properties; 3) quantification of cloud-related uncertainties; 4) cloud and precipitation processes and their parameterization in models; 5)  the weather and climate impacts of clouds.
