Inner Radiation Belt Particles and Waves Dynamics

Session ID#: 81303

Session Description:
We propose a session dedicated to the electromagnetic environment and the physical processes within or in the vicinity of the inner belt (L<3). This region of the near-Earth space is generally characterized by long timescales of most physical processes at stake, which makes the dynamics rather slow and the radiation persistent. Much faster particle injections or wave-particle interactions nevertheless occur and can compete with or hide slower processes. Complexity arises from both the close Earth that drives dependence of the waves and processes with longitude and local time and of the geomagnetic activity involving solar activity and MLT-variations. This session solicits observational studies from older, recent (e.g. RBSP), or upcoming missions, and/or numerical studies of particles (electrons/ions) dynamics, electromagnetic waves (properties, propagation, etc.), electric and magnetic fields, the plasmasphere, wave-particle interactions, coulomb collisions, transport, SAA effects, ionosphere heating, onboard wave emission, etc, occurring within the inner radiation belt region.
