Non-Newtonian Fluids and Foams in Porous and Fractured Media: Applications, Modeling, and Experiments at Multiple Scales
Non-Newtonian Fluids and Foams in Porous and Fractured Media: Applications, Modeling, and Experiments at Multiple Scales
Session ID#: 81932
Session Description:
Non-Newtonian fluids and foams have found utility in an increasing number of applications ranging from enhanced oil recovery to groundwater remediation to porous media characterization, in addition to arising in many natural and engineered systems. Non-Newtonian fluids and foams exhibit non-linear stress-shear rate relationships, non-constant viscosities, and other complexities in fluid behavior, complicating the understanding and modeling of their flow in porous and fractured media. This session welcomes submissions related to experimental, theoretical, and computational studies involving the flow of non-Newtonian fluids and foams in fractured and porous media at the pore, continuum, or field scales. Topics may include, among others: use of these materials in remediation of contaminants in groundwater or the vadose zone, reaction and dispersion in non-Newtonian fluids in the subsurface, the use of foams and polymers in resource recovery, including hydraulic fracturing and oil recovery, upscaling methods, rheological studies, and novel applications or modeling approaches.
