Earth Observation Solutions to Address the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals: Connecting Water, Energy, Land Use, and Food Security
Session ID#: 82310
Session Description:
Three years into the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, countries, regional initiatives, and international agencies are increasingly recognizing the key role Earth observations can, and do, play in monitoring and evaluation systems to measure and achieve progress towards the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The need for timely, objective, repeatable, and effective resource management and integrated planning at global to national and sub-national levels is emphasized by the global development community. This session illustrates how EO experts are broadening and deepening the relevance of EO data in support of global environmental and societal policy across the water, energy, food security, and land use domains. The session showcases the latest advances in Earth science applications to support countries in meeting the SDG targets and indicators of relevance to the sustainable use of natural resources, with emphasis on use cases that address SDG interlinkages and tradeoffs.
