EP008
Cities and rivers – hydro-geomorphology and ecology
Session ID#: 82440
Session Description:
Rivers in watersheds with extensive urban development undergo a suite of changes that can be connected as symptoms of an urban stream syndrome. In this session we seek to pull together new research on urban river hydrology, geomorphology, and ecology related to fluvial functioning of urban systems. In particular we would like to explore strategies intended to mitigate urban impacts or restore channels, and assess whether they are working, and discuss alternative approaches. Studies of new methods such as sediment supply management and the preservation of headwater features, which might successfully address a wider range of management criteria, are welcome. Field, numerical, laboratory, conceptual and critical studies are all encouraged.
