Finding the “Middle Ground”: Scientist-to-Scientist Presentations that Cut the Jargon and Make Research Accessible Across Disciplines
Finding the “Middle Ground”: Scientist-to-Scientist Presentations that Cut the Jargon and Make Research Accessible Across Disciplines
Session ID#: 82771
Session Description:
Oral communication of the results of scientific research has traditionally taken two dichotomous forms: the standard conference talk aimed toward other experts in a particular field and the public talk intended for non-scientists. Scientists do not often attend public talks, and session talks are rarely accessible to scientists outside the sub-discipline. However, there is a middle ground of science communication that will broaden the impact of an individual’s research and may inspire interdisciplinary collaboration. To both celebrate the diverse nature of research done by AGU scientists and promote interdisciplinary discussions and collaborations, this session solicits current research talks from any AGU section that will be accessible to the entire AGU community. We encourage the reworking of existing, more technical material into presentations that communicate the speaker's expertise but lack jargon, bridging the gap between scientists in different disciplines and exposing the AGU community to leading research outside their own discipline.
