Recent Innovations in Open Science Platforms: Data and Algorithm Sharing Usher in a New Era of Earth Science
Session ID#: 83060
Session Description:
In addition to the Earth Observation data space agencies have been collecting for over 40 years, upcoming national, international and commercial satellites will deliver exponential growth in Earth Observation archives, accumulating on the order of 100 TB / day. To fully exploit these vast archives, platforms are being developed to enable users to explore these datasets without having to download or install a single file or software package.
The scope of scientific inquiry has been constrained by storage and compute resources. By collocating data with compute resources, new platforms for data sharing and algorithm collaboration will usher in a new era of Earth science.
However, there is no one-size fits all platform for processing and analysis of remote sensing-data. This session seeks to share knowledge and align community progress across efforts to exploit Earth data. These conversations will lead to best practices for dataset, algorithm, and processing metadata and protocols.
