Plant-water interactions under a changing climate
Plant-water interactions under a changing climate
Session ID#: 83505
Session Description:
Vegetation activity and the water cycles are inherently coupled, and such couplings tightly connect multiple spheres of the Earth system. Improved understanding and proper model representations of plant-water interactions are thus critical to improve our modeling skills to predict the future Earth system. There are many processes regulating plant-water interactions, ranging from plant physiological, ecological, evolutionary, and bio-geographical processes to climate variability and change. The relative importance of each process can vary with the scale examined, and all these processes collectively shape the large-scale carbon and water cycles, and associated vegetation-mediated climate feedbacks. This session welcomes submissions with regard to any process mentioned above, from empirical observations, process-based model simulations, up to theoretical deductions across various spatial and temporal scales. By assembling all the relevant topics, our session also aims to help review the current advance in these topics while help to point out several grand challenges in the future.
