Rupture dynamics across multiple scales
Rupture dynamics across multiple scales
Session ID#: 83589
Session Description:
Tensile and shear fractures are prevalent in geologic systems. These include fault zones, volcanoes, and natural resources reservoirs. Understanding of precursory deformations and dynamics that arise during failure, which are often rapid, non-linear, and multi-scale is of great importance. We invite research that explores the effect of rock properties, in situ stress, fluid pressure, and pre-existing heterogeneities (defects) on the fracturing process. We also encourage submissions that tackle concurrent numerical efforts assisted by laboratory observations.
