Mantle Metasomatism in Active Lithosphere from Subduction to Post-Collision
Mantle Metasomatism in Active Lithosphere from Subduction to Post-Collision
Session ID#: 83613
Session Description:
Metasomatic changes in mantle rocks associated with subduction play a critical role in determining the chemical and isotopic characteristics of magmas produced during and after subduction. Our understanding of geodynamic behavior in subduction zones now urgently requires linking the mineralogical products of mantle metasomatism with the physical properties of mantle domains resolved by geophysical data. Deployments of large-scale geophysical arrays which record both seismic and magnetotelluric data, such as USarray, provide excellent opportunities to develop a more systematic view of the mantle lithosphere. This session encourages integrative and multidisciplinary research which aims to understand the role of mantle metasomatism in lithospheric evolution as well as the flux of volatiles through active lithosphere. We welcome integrative contributions from field, petrological, geochemical, geophysical, experimental and geodynamic modeling studies that focus on investigating mantle metasomatism and its profound effect on shaping our planet.
