The manifestation of subduction: geochemical, petrological, and geophysical constraints on lithospheric structure, composition, and evolution
The manifestation of subduction: geochemical, petrological, and geophysical constraints on lithospheric structure, composition, and evolution
Session ID#: 83741
Session Description:
Subduction zones display a rich diversity in magmatic, tectonic and metamorphic processes at a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. As major crust-producing, -refining and -recycling factories, their evolution greatly influences the chemical composition and physical characteristics of the overriding lithosphere. However, many of these aspects, including subduction initiation and evolution, timing and evolution of magmatism, and contribution to the production of continental crust, are not well understood.
Understanding these aspects requires collaborative research, integrated perspectives, and complementary methodologies. We invite research contributions related to: petrological, structural, geochemical, and geochronological studies on rocks from exhumed and/or active settings, petrological experiments and modeling, and geophysical/geodynamic studies of subduction margins.
