Atmospheric, Land, and Ocean Processes in the Maritime Continent and Indo-Pacific
Atmospheric, Land, and Ocean Processes in the Maritime Continent and Indo-Pacific
Session ID#: 85520
Session Description:
The Maritime Continent archipelago and Indo-Pacific tropical warm pool regions are a global nexus of deep, moist convection generated and maintained on multiple spatial and temporal scales. Current state-of-the-art global climate and weather prediction models suffer from persistent, systematic errors and limited prediction skill in the region. Tightly linked land, oceanic, and atmospheric processes control the growth and variability of convection, relevant cloud-aerosol processes, and air-sea interactions and are foci of recent field campaigns (e.g. CAMP2Ex, CHECSM, DIMOP, MISO-BOB, PISTON, SCSTIMX, YMC). This session solicits contributions with emphases in observations, numerical modeling, data assimilation, reanalysis products, predictability, or theory related to terrestrial, oceanic and/or atmospheric processes that impact or are influenced by convection over the Indo-Pacific warm pool and Maritime Continent. Contributions that address sub-seasonal to seasonal variability of convection including MJO/BSISO, monsoon variability, the diurnal cycle, and/or related cloud, aerosol, land, and ocean processes are particularly encouraged.
