Abstract:
Severe space weather events have the potential to detrimentally impact a variety of technologies and infrastructures that we have become dependant on in our daily lives. To that end, space weather forecasting has become crucial to provide timely guidance to end users about current solar activity and its potential impacts on the near-Earth space environment. One of the key aspects of providing this forecasting service is the research to operations process, transitioning basic science insights into flexible tools that operational forecasters can use to provide tailored guidance to different end-user needs. This presentation will highlight some current requirements for running models operationally, from coding standards and documentation to testing and verification measures, and the process followed for these.
