From 1,300 Pages to 9: Distilling and Localizing Critical Climate Science Information to Motivate Climate-Smart Decision-Making

Abstract:

‘Information overload’ and ‘analysis paralysis’ are common experiences when it comes to understanding and using climate change information. While scientific organizations like the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are needed to produce and synthesize global climate change science, additional steps are needed to translate, localize and visualize this rich scientific information to more clearly communicate the policy-relevance and urgency of climate action and adaptation at a local scale. This presentation will share one approach for distilling and visualizing two recent IPCC Special Reports with the goal of increasing access to this critical climate science information by state agencies, non-profits and communities across Washington State.
