Abstract:
In the interdisciplinary use of satellite data, analysis and research using cloud platforms (CP) such as GEE, Tellus, etc. have become widespread. Due to its usefulness (no need to download data to the local environment, display of immediate analysis results by large-scale computational power, etc.), analysis and research using CP are expected to become the standard in the future. Regarding of JAXA data, ALOS (optical image), AW3D (elevation), GSMaP(Precipitation) product is mounted on GEE, GCOM-C satellite’s product (NDVI, LST, SST, Chl-a, Japan area only), ALOS-2(SAR data, Japanese region only), is mounted on Tellus, respectively. However, other types of products, global level data, some of the latest data, etc. are not installed in the CP. It is necessary to download and pre-process the data which isn’t currently mounted on CP, such as GCOM-C's global products, GCOM-W satellite’s Products, and so on. So we're working on the following initiatives: First, we have developed a tool to automate product search, downloads, pre-processing, etc. In particular, the user simply specifies the type of interest period, region, satellite imagery then tools automatically identify and download satellite imagery, read and integrate (mosaic processing) and execute map projection, mask with QA flag, multi-day composite, output files(Geotiff(Cloud Optimized Geotiff),PNG, KML, etc). The tool can process the satellite images observed by JAXA’s satellites with medium spatial resolution (100 m to several km), which is published free of charge. By using this tool, even if the data is not in CP, it is possible for the user to use, visualize, and upload satellite data to CP without complicated preprocessing. The second is investigate specifications and construction of highly usability delivery methods and interface such as Web APIs. We aim to make it possible to use JAXA satellite data in CP and Web services more seamlessly by establishing a database with a pre-processing tool and combining it with the Web API. In this meeting, we will explain the outline of the tools developed, the API under development, and future prospects about JAXA’s interdisciplinary satellite data distribution.
