Challenges and Opportunities in Satellite Data Services for Interdisciplinary Research and Applications

Abstract:
Effortlessly finding and seamlessly accessing Earth science data in an open and integrated environment are essential to facilitate interdisciplinary research and applications and to broaden the user community. To date, accessing heterogeneous interdisciplinary datasets still poses a challenge to users around the world. Finding the right data and information for a specific research or application need is even more challenging. With the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) Data Principles (Wilkinson et al. 2016) being advocated in the science community and emerging technologies (e.g. cloud computing, AI/ML), more Earth science data (e.g. observations, models) will be made available for discovery, access and integration. Data services become increasingly important to ensure effortless finding and seamless data access from multiple sources. In this presentation, we will discuss some key challenges and opportunities in Earth science interdisciplinary data and services.
