Navigating and Remediating the Global Impacts of Climate Change Through NASA Remote Sensing Technology

Abstract:
Anthropogenic climate change is an ever-growing obstacle that threatens the sustained presence of life on Earth. Over the past century, humans have had an undeniable impact on Earth system processes which has left arguably every square inch of the globe changed by humans in some capacity. These shifts in temperature, weather pattern, and subsequently every other environmental characteristic of the Earth pose major impacts on global biodiversity projections for the near future. NASAs remote sensing technology provides a means by which to monitor these changes as they happen, and provide information for decision makers to prevent, combat, or remediate the damage.
This session will highlight major findings over the past decade by NASA funded PIs in their efforts to monitor changes in global biodiversity and construct tools to aid in climate related decision making. Furthermore, we will provide, and an overview of the remote sensing tools employed that provide a low-cost standardized means of environmental monitoring with consistency in data collection across time and space.
