Inspection of Subsurface Critical Infrastructure using a Phased Array 5G system

Abstract:

• Ground penetrating radar, GPR, operating in the 6GHz frequency range has been used for a variety of subsurface sensing applications.
• 5G efficiently couples to phased array and MIMO antenna systems in the mid-frequency (nominal 5.8 GHz) range.
• Our research regarding the use of drone mounted 5G phased arrays for increased directivity and signal penetration deeper into the ground than conventional GPR to allow for determination of subsurface anomalies, waterlines and pipeline locations will be presented.
