Abstract:
The International Airborne Sub-millimetre Radiometer (ISMAR) is an airborne demonstrator for the Ice Cloud Imager (ICI) that will be launched on the next generation of European polar-orbiting weather satellites. It has channels between 118 and 874 GHz and has been operated for over five years on the UK’s BAe-146 Atmospheric Research Aircraft. During this time it has collected observations in a variety of atmospheric conditions, including clear-sky and cloudy cases, as well as over ocean, snow, and ice covered surfaces. This presentation will give an overview of ISMAR and describe some of the research that has been performed using ISMAR observations in preparation for ICI.
