Changes of Thermal Condition in Pacific and Its Correlation with Climate in China during Spring

Abstract:
China is located on the east side of the Eurasian continent and the west coast of the North Pacific Ocean, which is a significant zone of climate change. Atmospheric circulation can affect the short-term climate change in China, and the thermal condition of the Pacific Ocean is an important factor affecting the atmospheric circulation., Here we use sea-air temperature difference to represent the thermal condition of the Pacific Ocean. Then we use empirical orthogonal function and regression analysis to find out the spatial and seasonal distribution characteristics and trend of the heating condition between the sea and the air. Based on regression analysis, we show the influence of thermal conditions in three different regions of Pacific (tropics, temperate and high latitude region) on temperature and precipitation in China during spring. The result demonstrates that, most area of the Pacific Ocean provides heat to the atmosphere in winter half year, while atmosphere provides heat to most area of high latitude Pacific Ocean in summer. The spatial distribution and variation rule of sea-air temperature difference of the Pacific Ocean is different in the tropical, mid-latitude, and high-latitude area. The sea-air temperature difference anomaly in the tropical Pacific has a lagged correlation to temperature and precipitation in China during spring. This is of great help to China's seasonal climate forecast.
