Abstract:
The Amazon rainforest can show increase in ecosystem photosynthesis in the core of the rainforest during dry spells and the dry season. Even when controlling for the increased incoming photosynthetically available radiation, this increase is still observable. We will elaborate here on the causes for this increase which go against typical understanding based on stomatal models. We will specifically assess the difference between ecosystem and stomata scale response to water and heat stress. If time permits we will further emphasize the role of disturbances as observed using recent satellite missions.
