Knocking Round the Radiation Belts: Results from the First Year of DSX Space Weather Experiment Observations

Abstract:
Since 25 June 2019, the Space Weather Experiment (SWx) on the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Demonstration and Science Experiment (DSX) mission has been collecting energetic particle data in the radiation belts. The DSX orbit allows sampling of the slot region, the higher L outskirts of the inner belt, and the outer belt at mid-latitudes. The five SWx particle instruments observe electrons from 10s of eV to >4 MeV and protons from 10s of eV to 440 MeV, with three of these instruments having multiple look directions. Observations span over one year of solar minimum and the beginning of solar cycle 25. We will present SWx results on radiation belt climatology as well as observations supporting the primary DSX mission, exploration of wave-particle interactions resulting from in situ high power transmissions.
