Seismic Frequency Resonance Prospecting -- A New Geophysical Exploration Technique

Abstract:
A new geophysical exploration technique, seismic frequency resonance Technique (SFRT), has been developed recently. The theory basically is quite deferent with that of normal seismic exploration. The properties of frequency resonance of sonic wave through solid media is used to measure the wave impedance variation. For the method, the transfer function of sonic waves through solid media is applied to detect the impedance variation. As the impedance parameters are more sensitive than velocities of the earth and the transmitted wave is used for the technique, it is quite easier to distinguish the structures and attributes of solid earth than other seismic exploration technologies. Recently, it has been applied to image the crustal of the earth and the excellent seismic impedance profile of the earth has been obtained from Huainan, Anhui province to Shanghai, China. And some of other prospecting examples too, including the finding of oil leaking location from pipe line, the exploration of solid mineral resources and oil & gas, the exploration of underground water and active earth folds, and fracturing monitoring etc., have improved that the new exploration technique, SFRT, is a useful geophysical technique.

The basic theory and some effective examples have been described in the paper. All of the examples are published of first time, but they are really impressive.
