New Platform for Boundary Layer Observations

Abstract:
Since 2011, InterMet has been supplying atmospheric sensors (primarily PTU) for deployment on low-cost, fixed, and rotary wing UAS. It first helped a customer install a modified radiosonde into a fixed-wing Silver Fox aircraft, and this started development of various sensors. Based on feedback from these sensors, InterMet is developing a new sensor system (iMet-X4) that will feature redundant temperature and humidity sensors and additional add-on sensors (such as analog, i2c, SPI, UART). Redundant sensors can improve the reliability and integrity of scientific measurements. The iMet-X4 is designed to be reliable in all environments such as fog and light rain and will be compatible with a wide range of aircraft. The basics of the iMet-X4 design will be presented along with examples of collected flight data for researching the boundary layer.
