The near-shore carbonates' relationship between ocean saline components and seashells growing and its investigating activities in the high school.
Abstract:
easy to approach to ocean for school students’ activity. Otherwise,
water and biochemical materials have messy circumstances by the well-
convection flow.
Last 2 years we built our investigating team ROSSO (Rifu Ocean Saline
Survey Organization) in the high school and we have continued to years-
survey to measure saline and anion quantities. The survey sites are
located in Matsushima-bay, north Japan area.
(1) Saline monitoring activity at the near shore
We found the saline which includes most of anion get a once peak in a
year. Only very limited anion such as Na+ has twice peaks in the year
summer and winter.
(2) Biochemical delay to forming carbonates
The area Matsushima region is famous for oyster and scallop. In our
educational activity, we take the seashells for various seasons and
measure degassed CO2 volume by strongly heated around 900 celcius degree.
One of the results told the CO2 volume has peaks also twice a year same
as Na+, but their rising seasons are 4 or 5 months delay from saline
volume or anions volume rising. We will discuss about the possibility
about the seashells forming reaction at near shore.
(3) Nearshore influence for saline quantity
For some seasons, we have search the saline volume by using drone
apparatus to take sea water. The farther away from the shore less than
10m, the salinity became higher. In the other hand, if take the seawater
farer than 20m maximum for 83m, salinity decreased as farer away from
shore. We will report how does salinity change depending on the distance
by using drone and development of water collection equipment in the
educational scene.
