Electron Density Fluctuations in Saturn’s Magnetosphere

Abstract:
Rapidly rotating magnetodisc of Saturn with its own plasma source. It is believed that the outward radial transport is determined by the radial gradient of flux tube content and flux tube entropy. Electron density and temperature fluctuations are observed in the outer magnetosphere of Saturn by Voyager-1 and Voyager-2. Goertz [1983] suggested that these fluctuations are due to the formation of plasmoids via a flute type instability. We will compare the observed electron density fluctuation with Multi-fluid Lyon–Fedder -Mobarry (MFLFM) simulations. The study of the transition of the theta component of the magnetic field (how long the theta component remains negative) suggests that most of the transitions are very short (less than the 5 min) but there are cases where we see long transitions cases at higher latitudes. We will also study the causal effect of the origin of plasmoids with the observed density fluctuation and
